Employee Internet Use at Work Can employee internet usage at work affect the bottom line? In today’s society, most employees have a computer at their work stations that are connected to the company network and the internet. According to Cheryl Warner, a contributor to the Forbes website, she cited Russ Warner who stated; â€Å"There are many activities employees do that waste time at work. Excessive meetings, co-worker interactions, office politics, and fixing mistakes are a few. According to a recent Salary.com survey, one of the biggest culprits is surfing the Internet.† (Conner Warner, 2012). An important area of corporate interest is employee policy and the use of the internet. Employee internet usage at work may need to be investigated from time to time, and also may be based on how many employees that use computers with internet capability to complete daily work, spells potential for misuse. With a specific interest with the following points, electronic media policy must be in place to help safeguard the company and guide employees. The following six points are areas of interests and will be addressed in following sample policies. 1. Possible torts that could be committed by employees who use the internet at work 2.
